Pineapple Tarragon Infused Water

A few years ago, my best girlfriends and I went to a local spa for a full day of relaxation together. At the time, I was working a 9-to-5 job in the city, so an expense like this was not out of range for me. One of the most interesting parts of the day was the delicious pineapple-and-tarragon-infused water that they served as part of the spa experience. Honestly, it’s not a combination I would have dreamed of putting together on my own.

Fast-forward 3 years or so, and here I am homesteading and growing my own tarragon in the backyard. I probably wouldn’t spend money on a day spa right now — it’s just not in my budget, though, it was worth every penny at the time.

But, with the homegrown tarragon that’s about 20 feet from my kitchen, I can recreate part of the spa experience here at home — and all it costs me is the price of some pineapple. With the amount of physical and mental work that we are constantly doing as homesteaders, it’s important to have little things that pick us up every once in a while, don’t you think?

How to Make Pineapple Tarragon Water

Infusing water with fruits and herbs is nothing new, of course. Pick your fruit and/or herbs and let them steep in water in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.

For my pineapple-and-tarragon-infused water, I use:

  • 1 gallon of cold water
  • 1 sprig (appx. 0.25 oz.) of fresh tarragon, crushed
  • 1/2 to 1 cup of fresh or frozen pineapple chunks

You can buy an infuser or pitcher with an infuser, or you can add the ingredients directly to the water and either filter it before drinking it or use a dispenser to easily filter it while it’s being served. You can also use a tea strainer when making an individual serving or a small amount of flavored water.

Finding the Infused Water Recipes You Like Best

It’s fairly easy to experiment with the culinary herbs and fruits you already have growing in your garden. Choose your favorites and see which combinations you like best, or, you can try classic combinations, including cucumber & mint, lemon & mint, lemon, lime & ginger, watermelon & basil, and more.
